This symposium is limited to 60 participants. MENTOR-Manatee fellows and those involved with threat assessments who have been contacted by Lucy: please DO NOT register here, you are already on the list.
This meeting will bring together African researchers and students, conservationists, resource managers, educators, government wildlife agencies and other relevant NGOS from as many range countries as possible. Sirenian experts from outside Africa are also invited to attend to share their expertise. Spoken and poster presentations of African manatee research and conservation results from across the species range will be invited to highlight work that has been accomplished over the past twelve years, as well as presentations on specific topics by sirenian experts from other parts of the world that are applicable to African manatees. The workshop will also include round tables on priority topics such as threat mitigation, enforcement needs and raising awareness. This symposium is needed now to consolidate and share the important knowledge gained about African manatees, to plan for research and conservation actions needed in the next ten years and beyond, and to foster and strengthen network connections by bringing researchers together in person.
If you would like to be considered for a spoken or poster presentation, please submit a 300 word abstract by February 14, 2020 to email@example.com. Make sure to include the following:
